President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two high-profile ministers and the elevation of key officials to drive the administration’s economic agenda.
The announcement was contained in a memo released on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
The directive confirms that Mr. Wale Edun, the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, are leaving their respective roles.
New Leadership for Finance and Housing
In a strategic move to reposition the nation’s fiscal management, the President has appointed Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele, who previously served as the Minister of State in the same ministry, is expected to bring his extensive expertise to the forefront of the administration’s financial reforms.
Furthermore, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as the Ministerial Nominee and Minister-Designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Following the reshuffle, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has been directed to hand over his duties to the Minister of State in the ministry pending the full transition.
Focus on the Renewed Hope Agenda
Providing context for the President’s decision, the SGF, Senator George Akume, noted that the changes are part of a broader strategy to improve the government’s internal operations and service delivery.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.
The SGF further clarified that the President’s actions are a full exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).
A Continuous Process of Reinvigoration
The memo sets a strict deadline for the transition, stating that all handing over and taking over processes must be completed by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their dedication and service to the country, wishing them success in their future endeavors. However, the SGF also issued a reminder to the remaining members of the FEC that the administration remains under constant review, noting that the “process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”
This reshuffle marks a significant shift in the administration’s approach to economic and infrastructure management as it seeks to accelerate the implementation of its development priorities.
