The Nigerian polity is almost reaching its peak as the incumbent Preside t Muhammadu Buhari has now declared for a bid to return to office in 2019.
One of the strong criticisms the President has had in the recent times and probably taken to be fair by Nigerians because of the personality of the critic, is from Pastor Tunde Bakare, serving overseer of Latter Rain Assembly.
He had fiercely condemned the Buhari’s administration and even said the government has failed especially in the handling of herdsmen’s crises within the north.
As we all entered the new year, the revered man of God was the first to give a political shocker of 2018 with his declaration to seek election for Presidency.
He had said on January 1st, 2018:
“In my study around 4am on Sunday morning, God told me ‘you cannot bring your political career to a close; there is still more to do. Run for the Presidency. I will do it at the appointed time”.
“Joseph (in the Bible) did not contest an election; yet, he became the prime minister of Egypt. Why must I worry myself about where to get the resources for the task? Your own duty in this assignment is to pray along with me. When it is the appointed time, He (God) will do it. When He tells me the time, you will hear about it,” he stated.
However, our correspondent observed that Bakare may likely not seek his election at the same time with Buhari for these three reasons:
One – the Latter Rain pastor contested alongside Buhari in their 2011 general elections, as the latter’s Vice-President under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.
If he would not be offered a chance to do same now that the President has made public his rerun interest, Bakare is not likely to contend with the Septuagenarian. Out of respect for his former running mate, he may wait lest the records and questions on why he is derailing from the dream he shared with Buhari will pop up.
He will have a lot of questions from Nigerians to answer and that may likely cut down his chances of winning.
Another is reflected through a careful perusal on his January 1st declaration of interest.
He never gave a specific date for running. He only stated “I will do it at the appointed time”.
Bakare has made too much uproar in the politics against Buhari in recent times than declare to run now after taking such a long time of over four months since January.
As a man of surprises that he has posed to be, nothing of such would appear as a great shock to Nigerian electorates now. He would need to take some more time again to build up his shocker.
Besides, many of the political bigwigs bidding for that office are already in the open it’s almost too late for the serious ones to come again.
Lastly, Bakare had given a fresh prophesy that Buhari will be succeeded by a Northern.
In his church’s service yesterday, the pastor said:
“The reason things are going haywire in Nigeria today is because God is preparing a tender plant from the side of the north,” he said
“Once this president is out, another tender plant is entering. It will be clear to us that God preserved us for 30 years, preparing us for what he has prepared for us”, he established as he remained resolute that his own appointed time is near.
If his prophecy is anything to go by, then Bakare will not be contradicting himself in words hence, a longer time before he comes seeking to rule Nigeria.
