The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has launched the Situation Room Electoral Accountability Tracker (SEAT), a platform designed to monitor electoral processes and deepen public engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The tracker was unveiled at a stakeholder event attended by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Police, civil society groups, and development partners.

Speaking at the close of the event, Co-Convener of the Situation Room and Executive Director of the Emma Ezeazu Centre for Good Governance and Accountability, Ene Obi, thanked participants and partners for their support.

She acknowledged the contributions of development partners, including support from the United Kingdom, and commended individuals who played key roles in developing the tracker. She also appreciated INEC officials for attending the event.

Obi said the Situation Room wants INEC to succeed, noting that credible elections would strengthen democratic governance and improve public trust in the electoral process.

She also thanked the Nigeria Police for what she described as continued partnership, particularly acknowledging their role in election security. She noted that the group looks forward to further engagement with the leadership of the police.

Obi urged INEC to build public confidence and provide direction as preparations begin for the 2027 elections.

She added that the development of SEAT is part of broader efforts by the Situation Room to push for improved electoral standards, including ongoing advocacy around credibility benchmarks for future elections.

Obi called on stakeholders to make use of the platform, describing it as a tool that can help citizens track developments and hold institutions accountable.

The Situation Room is a coalition of civil society organisations that monitors elections and advocates reforms in Nigeria’s electoral process.
