Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned Nigeria’s first integrated energy hub in Oshodi, describing the project as a major milestone in the country’s transition to cleaner, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions.
The facility, built by IBILE Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC) along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, combines multiple energy sources in one location, offering Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and solar power.
The commissioning ceremony attracted senior government officials, oil and gas regulators, industry players, traditional and religious leaders, as well as members of the host community, who described the project as a significant step towards expanding Nigeria’s clean energy infrastructure.
Energy Hub Goes Beyond a Conventional Filling Station
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the project represents more than a traditional fuel station, noting that it reflects the future of transportation and energy in Nigeria.
“Many people may wonder why a Governor would personally commission a filling station. This is not just any filling station. It is an integrated energy hub that points to the future of mobility and energy in Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He explained that the facility provides practical solutions to Nigeria’s evolving energy needs by giving motorists and businesses access to cleaner and more cost-effective energy options.
According to the governor, the project aligns with Lagos State’s commitment to innovation, infrastructure development, and the Federal Government’s energy transition agenda, while supporting economic growth across the state.
Strategic Location to Support Economic Activities
Sanwo-Olu said Oshodi was intentionally selected because of its role as one of Nigeria’s busiest commercial and transportation corridors, serving thousands of commuters and transport operators daily.
He mentioned that reliable and affordable energy remains critical to sustaining commerce and improving mobility in Africa’s largest city.
He also added that the integrated energy hub is expected to reduce transportation costs, create employment opportunities, stimulate economic activities, and attract more private sector investment into Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu Commends Tinubu, Calls for Wider Adoption
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for driving the adoption of alternative energy through the Presidential CNG Initiative, describing the programme as a key factor in reshaping Nigeria’s energy landscape.
He urged federal regulators, private investors, and state governments to work together in replicating similar projects across the country.
“The energy transition should be seen as a national development priority and not a political issue,” the governor said.
IBILE Oil Praised for Driving Innovation
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the management of IBILE Oil and Gas Corporation for pioneering the initiative, saying the project demonstrates that government-owned enterprises can successfully combine commercial viability with public service.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investments and supporting projects that promote sustainable development, modern infrastructure, and cleaner energy solutions.
