As the nation needs to build capacity to diversify from a crude-oil dependent state and the world continues to explore new ways of scientific literacy with new way of bridging the divide between science and society, Rouleaux Foundation – an organisation that promotes science for sustainable development in Africa via synchronization of the activities of the academia, government, industry, media and public is set to host the public to Café Scientifique Nigeria to acquaint the public with the promises of science.
The program that is first in a series of casual scientific symposia seeks to acquaint the public with the promise of science to improve scientific literacy in the Nigerian community by demystifying science through public engagements.
In a release that was signed by the Executive Director of the foundation, Damilare Faniyan said that scientific endeavours with expressions of art and religious devotion are all possibilities that human nature converges to enhance service of human rights and development progress.
Faniyan explained that the scientific café will bring together resource persons with enthusiastic individuals to situate science, arts and religion within the context of the developmental aspirations of the Nigeria society with an extrapolation to the continent.
“There would be an interrogation of the dominant undercurrent of ideas that mold our attitude of mind to the most mundane and consequential matter of civil existence”
“Our cherished ideas about rule of law, the nature of authority, our expectation from leaders, our expectation from our fellow citizens, views about family, education, etcetera, and ultimately the economic, cultural, social and political consequences of our moral choices as a people in these matters are parts of issues that will be discussed at the meeting”, he said.
He posited that the conversation will help participants to gather new knowledge and adopt progressive set of values that will tilt the odds in favor of sustainable moral, social and economic development in Africa.
The program that has been themed “Science Art, Religion and Underdevelopment in Africa: A Paradigm Shift” will have the Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State Government, Femi Odubiyi; Former President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof Oyewale Tomori; President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Prof Mosto Onuoha and Executive Director, Tender Art Nigeria, Kunle Adewale as guest speakers
