A Lagos-based lawyer, Olasupo Ojo has described as unpatriotic and a national embarrassment, the refusal of the senate to accept a pay cut.
Ojo, who was speaking on a Radio Lagos Programme in Ikeja, said the Senators were elected to serve the people and not to amass wealth.
The legal practitioner urged the lawmakers to take a cue from the President and his vice as well as from some of the state Governors who had decided to cut their salaries in the interest of the masses.
Ojo wants the Senators to be paid according to the dictates of the economy, saying they could be paid higher salary when the economy improves and a reduction in their salary when the economy nose dives.
He explained that the disparity between the salaries of the National Assembly members and civil servants was too much, thus tempting civil servants to enrich themselves fraudulently.
