Lagos suffers from the menace of cart pushers, and residents dumping waste on road medians and canals.
In order to put an end to this, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lagos State, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan encouraged residents to do the proper thing so that PSP operators can assist them better than before.
Giving fresh details on developments that will help transform Lagos state waste management operations, Bamigbetan emphasized during an interview that if Lagosians imbibe the right ways and methods of doing things, the issues related to waste management can be minimized.
“We have recommended that people bag their waste and leave them in front of their houses. We want to have a strong and imbibing culture. We also want people to put their waste in their houses, not on the medians. Those who take their waste to the medians are the ones who don’t want to pay PSP operators,” says Bamigbetan.
“We are now having new partnerships which will enable seamless operations so if you put your waste in front of your house, it will get picked. We are expanding and collaborating and that is the essence of the whole thing.
“There is a modern landfill site constructed in Epe that will take care of Lagos waste disposal. We will be shutting down the ones we have very soon.”
Commenting on the use of social media to influence government policies, Bamegbetan said every citizen can make comments and government can also make their policies based on the comments they see on social media.
“The citizens can say what they want to say on social media regarding government policies and government too can use the information garnered on social media to shape its own policies. It is the new democracy and they should go together.”
