President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, signaling a strategic move to consolidate the government’s fiscal policy overhaul. The nomination, which requires Senate confirmation, was communicated in a formal letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday.
If confirmed, Oyedele will take over the portfolio from Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who is being reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This marks the third ministerial position Uzoka-Anite will hold in the current administration.
A Strategic Shift in Economic Management
The nomination brings the architect of Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms directly into the cabinet. Until his nomination, Oyedele served as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, the body responsible for drafting the comprehensive legislation currently before the National Assembly.
The move is widely seen as an effort to ensure the seamless implementation of the administration’s ambitious fiscal strategy. By moving from a committee head to a minister, Oyedele will have direct operational control over the policies he helped design.
Profile of the Nominee: From PwC to Policy Architect
A native of Ikaram, Akoko North Local Government Area of Ondo State, the 50-year-old nominee brings a blend of private sector pedigree and public policy expertise to the role. Oyedele is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert with over two decades of experience at the top of the financial world.

A 22-Year Journey at PwC
Oyedele’s professional trajectory is defined by a long and distinguished career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) . Joining the firm in 2001, he spent 22 years climbing the ranks to become a Fiscal Policy Partner and the Africa Tax Leader. In this capacity, he provided high-level tax and fiscal policy advice to governments and multinational corporations across the continent, giving him a rare perspective on comparative economic governance.
Academic and Intellectual Contributions
Beyond his corporate and governmental roles, Oyedele maintains a strong foothold in academia. He holds the position of a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School. This dual role as a practitioner and academic is expected to bring a theoretically grounded yet practical approach to the Ministry of Finance.
