The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old suspect in connection with an alleged case of grave tampering after a dried human head was discovered in a residential compound in Ibadan.
The incident was reported in the early hours of December 24, 2025, in the Itesiwaju Ariyo area of the state capital. According to police sources, a community representative alerted the police at about 3:00 a.m., following reports that an unknown individual had been sighted within a compound around 1:03 a.m.
Residents raised an alarm after noticing suspicious movement, prompting occupants of the house to investigate. A dried human head was reportedly found beside a bathroom, while further checks revealed that the grave of a deceased landlady within the compound had been tampered with.
Police operatives immediately visited the scene. Although the suspect initially fled by jumping over the fence, intelligence-led operations later led to his arrest. The suspect, identified as Hammed Oy Eleke, was reportedly seen at the scene before the alarm was raised.
The police confirmed that the exhibit has been secured and the suspect is currently cooperating with investigators by providing information to assist ongoing inquiries into the motive behind the act.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, psc(+), commended residents for their prompt cooperation and thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his continued support. He also ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku for a thorough and discreet investigation.
While congratulating residents on the New Year, the police commissioner advised members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly during religious activities, urging them to gather in well-lit and accessible areas. He also reminded residents that the ban on fireworks remains in force, warning that such activities could be exploited for criminal purposes.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or security post.
