The Primary Health Centre (PHC) Boyi Sarki in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State, has fallen into a severely deteriorated condition, raising urgent concerns over healthcare delivery for thousands of residents who depend on the facility.

The health centre is currently battling structural damage, including a leaking roof and a collapsed ceiling, creating unsafe conditions for both patients and healthcare workers. Community accounts indicate that parts of the building are no longer functional due to neglect and environmental damage.

No Electricity, Nurses Rely on Rechargeable Lamps

One of the most alarming challenges at the facility is the complete lack of electricity, forcing nurses and healthcare workers to depend on rechargeable lamps to attend to patients at night.

This situation has significantly hampered emergency response and nighttime medical services, leaving patients vulnerable during critical hours when timely care is often needed most.

Over 5,000 Residents Affected

More than 5,000 people in Boyi Sarki and surrounding communities rely on the PHC for primary healthcare services, including maternal care, child health services, and emergency treatment.

However, the facility’s worsening condition has led to growing fears that it is no longer capable of adequately serving the population it was established to support.

Calls for Immediate Government Intervention

Residents and stakeholders have called on relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, and the Niger State Ministry of Health, to urgently intervene and facilitate the renovation of the facility.

They are urging swift action to restore electricity, repair the damaged structure, and equip the centre to meet basic healthcare standards.

Community Plea for Urgent Renovation

Community members have reiterated that the situation poses a serious public health risk, especially for pregnant women, children, and emergency cases who rely on the facility as their first point of care.

They are calling for immediate rehabilitation of PHC Boyi Sarki to prevent further deterioration and ensure that essential healthcare services are restored without delay.
