With youth unemployment/underemployment rate (according to the National Bureau of Statistics) at 55.4% in Nigeria,
Paradigm Initiative and Dufuna Technology will be organizing a digital skill training to empower Nigerian youths on accessing employment opportunity within and outside the country.
According to the organisers, the training would empower underserved youth, thereby contributing to easing the unemployment burden in the country.
This collaboration between Paradigm Initiative with Dufuna announces the rebranding of the Techtiary program.
Olatokunbo Fagbamigbe, Project Lead at Dufuna said Dufuna technology is passionate about tackling unemployment among recent graduates through its training programs.
He said, “From October 2019, the collaboration between Paradigm Initiative and Dufuna will be organising a 6-month hands-on CodeCamp which is a Lagos-based, project-centric software engineering training programme for recent graduates.”
Prior to this new initiative, Paradigm Initiative had for eight years (beginning 2012) run its innovative Techtiary program, which had enabled students in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions develop entrepreneurial and technical skills during the course of their University programs, with many success stories as a testament to its impact.
Tosin Abolaji, Program Manager for Digital Inclusion at Paradigm Initiative, said, “The programme will equip participants with skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, SQL, algorithms & data structures and software version control and classes will be taught both virtually and physically (in Lagos).
“No prior knowledge of programming is required but however, to succeed in the programme, participants must have the determination to succeed and be a self-starter.”
Applications for this program opens August 2 and closes August 30 2019. Selected applicants are required to pay a sum of ₦500,000 spread over 30 months after the third month following the programme completion. This is a deferred payment model that allows trainees to only pay for the cost of the program (₦500,000) after they have completed the program and started work based on new skills picked up during the training.
