Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially joined the Accord Party and announced that he will seek re-election on the party’s platform in the 2026 governorship election. The governor made the announcement on Tuesday evening at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, during a meeting with national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
Adeleke said he had quietly joined the party on November 6 after weeks of consultations with stakeholders and political leaders across the state. He explained that the decision was taken to ensure continuity of his administration’s programmes and to pursue a second term under a platform he described as “aligned with his government’s welfarist ideology.”
According to him, the Accord Party’s focus on citizens’ welfare informed his decision to switch platforms, noting that the party’s philosophy mirrors his administration’s policies on workers’ welfare, infrastructure development and social support systems. He expressed confidence that the party would win the August 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke told the gathering that he had been impressed by the internal structure and values of the Accord Party since joining it, adding that he was committed to strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming election. He urged members to remain united and committed as preparations for the election begin.
The governor said his administration had prioritised the welfare of workers and residents, claiming that Osun State had witnessed improvements in governance and service delivery under his leadership. He said the re-election bid on the new platform was aimed at completing ongoing projects and expanding development initiatives across the state.
Adeleke reaffirmed his readiness to contest the 2026 governorship poll under the Accord Party and declared the party as the new choice of his supporters across the three senatorial districts. He added that residents who voted for him in 2022 would support him again in 2026 based on what he described as the achievements of his administration.
He concluded by formally declaring for the Accord Party “in accordance with the will of stakeholders and the wishes of Osun people,” expressing optimism that the party would secure victory in the next election.
