The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Audi, who made the visit as part of efforts to strengthen security coordination for the election, was received by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Oluwatoyin Babalola, alongside National Commissioners of INEC.
Security, Inter-Agency Cooperation Top Agenda
The meeting focused on electoral security, inter-agency cooperation and the protection of election personnel, facilities and sensitive materials before, during and after the poll.
According to INEC, the engagement was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the electoral body and the NSCDC to ensure that security arrangements are properly coordinated throughout the electoral process.
National Commissioners Dr. Ken Ikeagu, Prof. Sanni Mohammed Adam, Rear Admiral Jamila Sadiq and A. T. Yusuf also attended the meeting.
The commission said the visit underscored the importance of sustained cooperation between INEC and security agencies in creating a peaceful and secure environment for the election.
Stakeholders Prepare for August 15 Election
The Osun State governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026, with voters, election officials, observers and other electoral actors expected to participate in the exercise.
The meeting between the NSCDC leadership and INEC officials comes as preparations intensify for the poll, with security remaining a key concern in ensuring a peaceful, credible and orderly election.
The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to providing a safe environment for all stakeholders during the electoral process.
