In a move set to redefine the industrial landscape of Southwest Nigeria, the Ondo State Government has officially signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for the development of a Deep Sea Port and a massive $4 billion petrochemical fertiliser plant.

The agreements were finalized during the high-level Ondo State Investment Summit 2026, signaling a major leap in the state’s drive to attract global capital and transition toward a sustainable industrial economy.
A Shift Toward Private Sector Dominance
The Deep Sea Port project is designed to operate under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Under the terms of the agreement, the Ondo State Government will hold a 12.5% equity stake, while private investors will retain the remaining 87.5%.
This strategic partnership is expected to unlock the state’s maritime potential, while the $4 billion fertiliser plant aims to bolster Nigeria’s agricultural value chain, drive massive job creation, and significantly increase export capacity.
The Governor’s Vision: The OUR EASE Agenda
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa emphasized that these projects are the cornerstone of his administration’s mission to pivot away from a civil service-driven economy.
“This initiative marks a definitive shift toward a private sector-led industrial model under our OUR EASE agenda,” Governor Aiyedatiwa stated. “We are positioning Ondo as a premier investment destination, backed by policy stability, aggressive infrastructure development, and our inherent natural economic advantages.”
Legislative and Diaspora Support
The summit received strong backing from the federal level. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, commended the governor’s resilience. He urged Aiyedatiwa to remain focused on his developmental goals despite political distractions, noting that long-term achievements would ultimately define his legacy.
Adding a global perspective to the summit, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), called on Nigerians living abroad to look beyond consumption. She encouraged the diaspora community to channel their remittances into industrial investments like those being pioneered in Ondo to fuel national economic growth.
Future Outlook
Stakeholders and economic experts at the summit reached a consensus that the state’s path to prosperity is inextricably linked to attracting private capital. By building robust industries and creating sustainable employment opportunities, Ondo State is positioning itself as a vital engine for Nigeria’s broader economic recovery.
