The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to adopt emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced surveillance systems, to strengthen their response to evolving security threats.
Oluyede said the changing nature of security challenges required the military to continuously adapt its methods and make greater use of technology to improve operational effectiveness.
He spoke on Friday in Kaduna while inaugurating the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Command Centre and three other projects at the academy.
The other projects inaugurated were the expanded and remodelled RSM Oliver Nzalgana Parade Ground, the newly constructed 500-capacity Ashanti Battalion Cadets’ Mess and the renovated Ribadu Auditorium.
Oluyede said advanced technological systems would help the Armed Forces process information faster, improve situational awareness and respond more effectively to emerging threats.
“The development of professional and effective armed forces requires sustained attention to training, structure, welfare, discipline and technological innovation,” he said.
The CDS described the new Command Centre as an important part of the academy’s security architecture, adding that technology had become increasingly important to modern defence operations.
He said the military could not afford to ignore advances in technology, particularly artificial intelligence and sophisticated surveillance systems, in its efforts to protect personnel, infrastructure and the country.
Oluyede also commended the Commandant of the NDA, Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, officers and staff of the academy for their efforts in improving infrastructure and human capacity. He urged the management and beneficiaries of the facilities to ensure proper maintenance and responsible use, while calling for accountability in their management.
