About DRAC
Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) is an Abuja-based, Non-Governmental, Not-for-Profit Organization that works to protect the Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). A pioneer in the field of Disability Inclusive Development in Nigeria, DRAC uses an array of innovative and creative tools and methods to engage with duty bearers, raise public awareness on the issue of disability rights and strengthen the capacity of a wide range of disability actors, with the primary aim of ensuring inclusion and access at all levels for persons with disabilities especially women and girls with disabilities.
Our Vision is, ‘A just world, devoid of poverty and intolerant of all forms of discrimination’. The Center is also an Information Hub and Resource Center for Disability and Human Rights issues in Nigeria.
DRAC is currently carrying out a range of projects and actions aimed at ensuring inclusion and access to services for persons with disabilities. Notable among these is the Access to Health Project, the Respect Not Abuse Project and Advocacy for the enactment of a Disability Law.
We are looking for qualified persons to fill the following positions:
1) Position Title:
Policy and Advocacy Officer (PAO)
The PAO will be responsible for:
• Developing innovative and evidence-based policy solutions that contribute to DRAC’s priorities and goal of ensuring disability inclusion;
• Developing advocacy strategies to facilitate the adoption of these policy solutions;
• Undertaking research into the policy solutions and service delivery models that are best placed to end disability discrimination and disseminating this knowledge to the sector;
• Delivering strategic policy advice to the Management and units within DRAC;
• Undertaking policy development and research for DRAC, including:
• Developing policy positions related to achieving disability inclusion;
• Undertaking demand and supply side consultations to inform these policy positions;
• Identifying research gaps and developing relevant research projects and proposals to advance DRAC’s advocacy objectives;
• Remaining up-to-date about new research findings related to disability inclusive development;
• Writing submissions or written responses to government processes e;g; shadow reporting;
• Writing speeches, articles, and briefing notes as required, and
• Participating in relevant thematic work groups, meetings and consultations;
• Developing and implementing advocacy and campaign strategies facilitating the adoption of DRAC policy proposals, including:
• Identifying allies within government, the disability community, civil society and the broader community;
• Developing collaborative processes or alliances to advance issues
• Developing communication materials to support advocacy and campaign activities, such as platforms, background fact sheets, and letters to politicians
• Planning and organising events to promote policy proposals, and
• Liaising with communications staff to provide relevant content for media releases, E-Bulletins and other communications
This role will work closely with demand (Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and Civil Society Actors) and supply (Government) side actors to develop policy positions, and to develop the coalitions of support necessary to achieve change.
Key Selection Criteria:
All applications for this position must address the following key selection criteria which may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
• Significant experience in NGO capacity building, and facilitation in Nigeria
• Tertiary qualification / Professional expertise in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Social Policy, Social Research, Social Work, Human Rights, Disability, Community Development or related field;
• Demonstrated experience in a social policy role, with a demonstrated ability to analyse and develop policy, produce high quality submissions, reports and position papers and effectively influence policy debates;
• Demonstrated experience in advocacy or campaigns, and knowledge of the Nigerian political system;
• Demonstrated experience in planning, undertaking and critiquing social research;
• Strong ability to transform research and program reports into graphic presentations and easy to understand versions;
• Extensive knowledge of policies relating to disability and other human services, including an understanding of the drivers of disability discrimination, barriers to inclusion and disability models;
• In-depth Knowledge of the UNCRPD and its application in other countries is desirable;
• In-depth knowledge of program planning and management tools and standard proposal application formats
• High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of diverse audiences;
• Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint with demonstrable ability to use online research tools, e;g; survey monkey
• Sound analytical and report writing skills
• Basic budgetary skills and able to work within limited resources
• Well-developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills;
• Ability to work independently and without constant supervision, combined with high level of team playing abilities;

2) Position Title:
Media and Communications Officer (MCO)
The purpose of the Media and Communications Officer role is to ensure that DRAC’s communications are effective, targeted and credible; The position will develop and implement strategies to raise DRAC’s media profile, as well as the profile of issues related to ending disability inclusion;
The MCO will work with all DRAC program units to:
• Develop strategies and create content to support DRAC’s advocacy objectives
• Strengthen DRAC’s role as a trusted voice on ending disability exclusion/discrimination and ensuring disability inclusion
• Build the political and community will to invest in solutions to disability inclusion
• Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets
• Develop, implement and evaluate DRAC’s media strategy in consultation with the other program units;
• Monitor daily media and advise on reactive media opportunities;
• Develop and pitch proactive media opportunities in consultation with other DRAC program units;
• Write and distribute media releases and op-eds;
• Lead production of DRAC’s communication materials including the DRAC monthly eNewsletter, Sector Bulletins, brochures and promotional material;
• Lead the development and implementation of the marketing and communication strategies of DRAC services;
• Lead and monitor implementation of a guide for all external and (where appropriate) internal communications materials;
• Contribute to the development and delivery of communication strategies for events, fora and policy submissions;
• Copy-edit DRAC publications;
• Develop and implement DRAC’s advocacy campaigns, in consultation with the Policy and Advocacy Officer;
• Maintain oversight of DRAC’s website, including updating relevant information;
• Develop, implement and evaluate DRAC’s social media strategy;
• Develop online communication materials including video content;
• Deliver on DRAC’s Strategic Directions;
Key Selection Criteria:
All applications for this position must address the following key selection criteria which may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
• Tertiary qualification in Public Relations, Journalism or a related field;
• Extensive experience in copywriting and proofreading within a Public Relations, Journalism or Communications role;
• Previous experience in media relations and a track record in securing media coverage;
• Experience in online communications including: developing and implementing online strategies and maintaining social media platforms;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and flexibly, as well as cooperatively as part of a team;
• Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint with demonstrable ability to design graphics;
• Demonstrated ability to organise work, manage time, determine priorities and meet deadlines;
• Basic budgetary skills and able to work within limited resources;
• Experience in planning and managing campaign activities;
• Knowledge of issues relating to disability, gender and disability inclusion;

3) Position Title:
Capacity Building and Partnership Officer (CBPO)
The role of the Capacity Building / Partnership Coordination Officer is to support and facilitate DRAC’s bid for state and non-state actors to understand and undertake attitudinal and practice improvements to achieve the best outcomes for persons with disabilities;
The CBPO will also be responsible for maintaining DRAC’s existing partnerships, whilst also identifying new organisations to work with; S/he will take a leading role liaising with current and prospective partners to develop and deliver projects; S/he will also support the implementation of DRAC’s community mobilization program components;
The CBPO is responsible for:
• Conducting capacity needs assessment to determine nature of capacity building initiatives required
• Developing and implementing capacity building activities to address identified needs through training, one-on-one mentoring and coaching;
• Building capacity of disability actors (organization of persons with disabilities, civil society organizations, media, development partners and Government) on disability inclusive development;
• Liaising with disability actors, development partners, sectoral stakeholders, training providers and government, on sector-specific disability inclusive development needs;
• Consulting with service providers, disability actors, other organisations and training providers to maintain an understanding of good practice and areas for practice development across the specialist disability inclusive development sector;
• Designing, organising and promoting relevant workshops and fora related to best practice in preventing and ending disability discrimination and implementation of the UNCRPD;
• Developing and disseminating relevant resources on good practices and implementation of the UNCRPD;
• Maintaining and developing working relationships with existing partner organisations of DRAC
• Exploring opportunities to bring new potential partners into the Disability Inclusive Development Agenda;
• Collaborating with existing and new partners to identify projects for support and work with them to deliver, monitor and evaluate same;
• Liaising with other program units in DRAC to develop and disseminate training manuals, toolkits, and other resource materials for various projects;
• Assisting with consolidation of on-going partnership initiatives
• Developing a general funders and other potential partners landscape/database
• Generating leads and open conversations with key contacts
• Searching RFPs and open requests options
• Leading the development of proposals and presentations to enable partnership opportunities
• Following up on conversations and processes
• Identifying best practices and incorporate new ideas for partnership building
Key Selection Criteria:

• Strong presentation, writing and negotiation skills, including the ability to elaborate partnership projects and grant proposals;

• Should be able to organize and prioritize own work with limited supervision;
• Sense of initiative, discretion, mature judgment, and entrepreneurial spirit is required;
• Capacity to effectively interact with a multiplicity of stakeholders including senior leaders;
• Innovation and strategic thinking are highly desirable;
