The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has called for the review of the laws guiding the conduct of public officers in the country, stating that the laws of the country as it is currently composed supports corruption.
The Congress is set for a showdown with judges that are frustrating the efforts of the anti-corruption agencies from prosecuting corrupt individuals through the granting of perpetual injunction of restraints.
Its President, Ayuba Wabba, who made the plea at a Forum, charged members of the National Assembly to discharge their functions with a high sense of responsibility to the people to ensure good governance in the country.
Wabba said the recesses since the inauguration of the eighth National Assembly was a waste of time and resources that would have been used to provide legislative backing to the new administration.
According to him, tackling corruption and other national challenges demanded the full attention of the National Assembly which should urgently review and strengthen extant laws for good governance.
He described the lengthy recess by the National Assembly members as “unjustifiable’’ and a disservice to the Nigerian people whose interest should be paramount.
