Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, has formally presented his Letter of Credence to US President Donald Trump at the White House, officially commencing his diplomatic assignment in Washington.

The development was disclosed on Sunday by Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, via his official X account.

Omokri congratulated Are, describing the ceremony as a significant milestone in Nigeria–United States diplomatic relations.

“Hearty congratulations to my friend, His Excellency, Colonel Kayode Are (Rtd), Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States of America, who has presented his Letters of Credence to President Donald Trump,” Omokri wrote.

He noted that Are’s presentation followed his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Omokri praised Are’s long career in public service, highlighting his previous roles as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and National Security Adviser.

He described him as a disciplined officer whose experience would strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation in the United States.

Omokri also commended Are’s cultural presentation during the ceremony, noting that he wore an elegant Aso Oke outfit, which he said helped project Nigeria’s soft power and cultural identity.
