In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure and international commerce, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Mr. Miah Md. Mainul Kabir, paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, at the Agency’s headquarters yesterday.
The meeting focused on establishing a robust framework for technological exchange and enhancing the safety and quality of medicines and vaccines across both nations. The dialogue marks a pivotal step in deepening bilateral relations through specialized pharmaceutical cooperation.
Strengthening Bilateral Trade and Investment
During the session, High Commissioner Kabir emphasized Bangladesh’s readiness to enter a long-term partnership with NAFDAC. He noted that both countries possess immense market potential that remains largely untapped in the life sciences sector.
“Bangladesh is prepared to partner with NAFDAC to advance the pharmaceutical sector and deepen bilateral trade and investment. There are significant mutual benefits to be gained from strengthened cooperation, particularly in improving global access to safe and effective medicines,” stated High Commissioner Kabir.
NAFDAC’s Push for Local Manufacturing
In response, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye reaffirmed the Agency’s dedication to maintaining rigorous standards. She highlighted that Nigeria’s regulatory environment has reached a global benchmark, making it an ideal destination for pharmaceutical expansion.
Prof. Adeyeye pointed to NAFDAC’s attainment of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maturity Level 3 status as a testament to the country’s robust regulatory systems and post-market surveillance. She encouraged Bangladeshi investors to look beyond finished goods and focus on local manufacturing, particularly in the high-demand areas of vaccines and biologics.
