The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has finalised arrangements for the implementation of a 30-day visa exemption for citizens of Rwanda, following an announcement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The policy, according to the agency, was unveiled by the President during the Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda, as a reciprocal gesture to the Rwandan government, which already grants visa-free entry to Nigerian citizens.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, said the new bilateral arrangement allows Rwandan nationals to enter Nigeria for up to 30 days without a visa for lawful purposes, including business, tourism, and official engagements.
The Service clarified that any Rwandan citizen intending to stay beyond the initial 30-day period must apply for the appropriate visa through a Nigerian embassy abroad or via the official e-Visa platform.
It further stated that the directive has been communicated to all relevant border authorities for immediate implementation.
“Consequently, all international entry points, including airports, land borders, and seaports, have been directed to commence immediate implementation of the policy in line with the Presidential directive,” the statement read.
The NIS noted that the initiative reflects the strengthening diplomatic and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Rwanda, and is aimed at promoting intra-African mobility, trade, and economic cooperation.
The Service also reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating safe, orderly, and lawful migration in line with international best practices and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akinlabi added that the public can direct enquiries regarding the new policy to the NIS 24-hour contact centre or through its verified social media channels.
