In a swift response to the growing humanitarian needs in Northwest Nigeria, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has officially commenced the distribution of essential relief materials to survivors of recent banditry attacks across three local government areas in Kebbi State.
Federal Intervention Under the Renewed Hope Agenda
The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, flagged off the distribution exercise in Birnin Kebbi on Monday. The initiative targets displaced persons and affected households in Shanga, Yauri, and Bunza Local Government Areas, who have suffered significant losses due to persistent insecurity.

Mrs. Umar noted that the intervention is a direct execution of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the welfare, safety, and timely humanitarian support of citizens nationwide.
“This intervention is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting our most vulnerable communities. We have identified these specific items through a rigorous needs assessment to ensure we are addressing the most urgent requirements of those affected,” Mrs. Umar stated.
Strategic Support for Affected Communities
The relief package, comprising food and non-food items, is designed to provide immediate stability to families whose livelihoods were disrupted by the raids. During the ceremony, the Director-General expressed deep sympathy toward the Kebbi State Government and the victims, reaffirming that the agency remains vigilant in its disaster response duties.
State and Traditional Leaders Commend Response
The exercise received strong backing from local leadership. Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir, the Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, attended the event and emphasized the impact of the aid on the local population. She remarked that the materials would provide “much-needed succour” to families struggling to rebuild their lives.
Representing the Emir of Gwandu, the Wazirin Gwandu, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, also lauded the federal intervention. He praised NEMA for its timely arrival and the transparency of the assessment process, noting that the support comes at a critical time for the agrarian communities in the affected zones.
