The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to the southern region of the country, while reserving the 2031 slot for the north.
The decision was taken on Saturday during the party’s national convention following a resolution adopted after a motion moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi.
According to the party, the zoning arrangement is aimed at promoting rotational leadership and ensuring balanced political representation between the north and south in its presidential selection process.
The NDC said the framework is part of efforts to strengthen internal unity and provide a clear structure for managing future electoral contests.
At the convention, members also approved and ratified the party’s national executive committee. The ratification followed a motion moved by Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central in the Senate, and was unanimously adopted by delegates.
Party leaders said the decisions reached at the convention reflect a commitment to inclusivity, stability, and long-term political planning ahead of the 2027 general election.
