The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is consulting relevant stakeholders ahead of the constitution and inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the 2027 elections.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by Osa Director Esq, the National Publicity Secretary, saying its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held meetings with the National Leader and the leadership of the party.
According to the NDC, Obi and Kwankwaso will nominate key officials into the campaign council in consultation with the party.
The positions include the Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), Spokesman, Deputy Spokesman, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director, among others.
“The party leadership has given a free hand to the presidential candidate and his running mate to make nominations,” the statement said.
Campaign Funds
The party said the Finance Director and his deputy would work with the National Treasurer to manage campaign funds.
It said the arrangement was to ensure transparency and accountability, noting that the party would be responsible for rendering accounts to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the Electoral Act.
The NDC also said a full organogram of the campaign structure had been developed since August and made available to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input.
The party said it had also received nominations from stakeholders across the country.
It added that a campaign timetable had been proposed since August, while arrangements for funding and fundraising were still being concluded.
According to the statement, the funds raised would be paid into the presidential campaign account and managed by officers nominated by Obi, Kwankwaso and the National Treasurer.
Inauguration Delayed
The NDC said the inauguration of the campaign council was initially scheduled for the first week of September, but was postponed because of Obi’s travel schedule.
The party said the council would be announced and inaugurated after receiving the inputs of the presidential candidate and his running mate.
“The party wishes to assure the public that as soon as we receive the inputs of our Presidential Candidate and his Vice, the NDC shall proceed to announce and inaugurate the same,” it said.
Party Seeks Focus
The NDC also appealed to its candidates at all levels to caution their supporters and support groups against internal battles.
It said the focus should be on winning the elections.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” the party said.
“We are committed as a party. The party has done its own and is ready to do more. The candidates and their supporters are encouraged to do the same.”
The party added: “Our candidates should keep their eyes on the ball and focus on winning.”
It said it wants all its candidates to win the elections, stressing that they are contesting under the NDC and not as independent candidates.
