In a vibrant display of industrial growth and cultural heritage, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) officially flagged off the 2026 Argungu Motor Rally at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Wednesday.

The rally, organized in collaboration with the Kebbi State Government, serves as a high-octane prelude to the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival. The event highlights the intersection of Nigeria’s traditional festivities with its modern industrial aspirations.

A Convergence of Culture and Technology

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Director-General of the NADDC, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, described the rally as a landmark moment for the nation’s automotive sector. He noted that the initiative represents a unique fusion of art, culture, and technological innovation.

“The Motor Rally represents the convergence of four critical elements—art, culture, technology, and innovation—showcasing Nigeria’s rich heritage alongside advancements in the automotive sector,” Osanipin stated.

The Director-General extended his gratitude to indigenous vehicle assemblers, including Lanre Shittu Motors, CIG Motors, KOJO Motors, and Mikano Motors, for providing the locally assembled vehicles participating in the grueling cross-country trek.

Promoting the Nigeria First Policy

A central theme of the event was the Federal Government’s Nigeria First Policy, which mandates the patronage of locally manufactured goods. Osanipin emphasized that every vehicle on the rally line was assembled within Nigeria, proving that the domestic industry is ready for the national stage.

The rally route is designed to test the endurance and quality of these vehicles across diverse terrains. The convoy will travel from Abuja through Kaduna to Kano, continuing through Zamfara to Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi, before reaching the final destination in Argungu.

“This underscores the capacity and maturity of Nigeria’s automotive industry,” the DG added, reaffirming the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to support any agency dedicated to promoting Made-in-Nigeria products.

High-Profile Endorsement

The ceremony attracted a prestigious lineup of stakeholders and government officials, signaling the economic importance of the rally. Notable attendees included:

  • Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.

  • Hajiya Salamatu Hussaini, representing Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc.

  • The Managing Director of OMAA Motors.

  • The Chief Executive Officer of CIG Motors.

The Argungu Motor Rally continues to be a primary platform for proving that Nigerian-assembled vehicles can withstand the country’s toughest roads while celebrating the nation’s enduring cultural legacy.
