The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has disbursed a N24 million intervention fund to 12 registered Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) across the state.
The intervention is aimed at strengthening the operations of the beneficiary organisations and improving their capacity to provide grassroots services to persons with disabilities.
The fund was presented to the organisations on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the LASODA premises in Alausa, Ikeja.
Speaking during the presentation, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the intervention was designed to provide direct financial support to registered OPDs.
She said the support would enable the organisations to deliver grassroots services, advocacy and economic empowerment programmes to persons with disabilities across Lagos State.
LASODA Says Fund Will Strengthen Grassroots Disability Services
Oyetunde-Lawal said the beneficiary organisations play an important role in reaching persons with disabilities at the community level.
She said their closeness to persons with disabilities places them in a position to identify their needs and provide appropriate support within their communities.
The General Manager said the intervention would help the organisations strengthen their operations and improve the services they provide to their members.
She added that the support would also promote advocacy and economic empowerment programmes aimed at improving the participation of persons with disabilities in society.
Oyetunde-Lawal said LASODA would continue to work with disability organisations to develop initiatives that respond to the needs of persons with disabilities across the state.
Agency Links Intervention to Lagos Social Inclusion Agenda
The LASODA General Manager said the intervention was in line with the Lagos State Government’s THEMES Plus Development Agenda, particularly its focus on social inclusion.
She said the state government remained committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate meaningfully in the development of Lagos.
According to her, strengthening disability organisations was important to achieving greater inclusion and ensuring that support reaches people at the grassroots.
She said LASODA would continue to strengthen partnerships with registered disability organisations and support programmes that improve the well-being and socio-economic inclusion of persons with disabilities.
Oyetunde-Lawal reiterated the agency’s commitment to initiatives that promote greater participation of persons with disabilities in the social and economic development of Lagos State.
Disability Organisations Commend LASODA for N24m Support
Responding on behalf of the beneficiary organisations, the Chairman of the Albinism Association of Nigeria, Mr. Tolani Ojuri, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and LASODA for the intervention.
Ojuri also thanked the agency for its continued partnership with the disability community across the state.
He said the support would contribute to the work of the beneficiary organisations and strengthen their ability to serve persons with disabilities.
The intervention brings together 12 registered OPDs as beneficiaries of the N24 million support provided through LASODA.
The agency said the initiative forms part of its efforts to strengthen partnerships with disability organisations and improve support for persons with disabilities across Lagos State.
