The Lagos State Government has announced a large-scale health and safety initiative aimed at providing medical screenings and safety training to 10,000 professional drivers across the state.
The program is scheduled to run from Monday, Feb. 9, to Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026. The initiative specifically targets truck and commercial drivers, who remain central to the state’s logistics and economic stability. Activities will be conducted at several high-traffic locations, including Iyana Iba, Obalende, the Lekki Free Trade Zone Parks, and the Lilly Pond Bonded Terminal in Apapa.
Drivers participating in the program will have access to free eye screenings, medical consultations, and corrective lenses. The sessions will also include awareness training on substance abuse to discourage impaired driving and improve overall transit safety on Lagos roads.
Hon. Hassan Adekoya, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, emphasized that the health of the driver is directly linked to the safety of the public.
“Our goal is to ensure that every driver leaving Lagos’ seaports, parks, and depots is physically fit, mentally alert, and visually capable of navigating the state’s roads safely,” Adekoya said.
The state government has called on transport unions, park owners, and associations to facilitate the program by encouraging their members to attend and allowing health teams access to major depots.
