The Lagos State Government has announced its readiness to host the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on February 14, 2026. The event, which has achieved Gold Label status, aims to solidify the city’s reputation as Africa’s premier sports hub and a global destination for road racing.

This year’s edition introduces a significant change to the course. The 42km elite race will follow a new route, kicking off at ORCA Mall on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, and traversing sections of the landmark Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road.

Organizers expect over 100,000 runners to participate across two categories: the 42km full marathon and the 10km fun run. Beyond the competition, the event is designed to showcase the Aquatic Splendor of the state and bring global attention to the iconic Eko Atlantic City.

The 42km race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m., while the 10km fun run will start at 9:30 a.m. Both races will officially conclude at 12:00 p.m.

The marathon continues to offer substantial financial rewards for both international and local athletes:

  • Elite 42km Category: Top male and female finishers will earn $50,000 each, with cash prizes extending to the eighth-place finishers.

  • Nigerian 42km Category: Local runners are competing for a top prize of ₦2 million, with rewards filtering down to ₦50,000.

  • 10km Fun Run: Winners in the male and female categories will receive ₦500,000, with prizes awarded through to the fifth position.

Reflecting on the marathon’s growth over the past decade, officials noted that the consistent hosting of this world-class event has created an enviable platform for professional athletes while promoting active lifestyles among residents.

“The consistent hosting of the Gold label race showcased Lagos as a leading sports destination not only in Africa but across the world, creating an enviable platform for runners and leading in the conversation of propagating active lifestyles,” the state government noted in an official statement.
