Following recent fire-outbreak in some major markets in Lagos, a call has been made for establishment of a standard fire-service centre in Mile Twelve market, which is reputed to be the largest food market in West Africa.
Iyaloja of the market, Modupe Ojo, who made the plea, said it had become imperative in view of increasing size of the market, and also in terms of goods and people involved with the market daily.
Ojo, who spoke at length, announced the thirtieth anniversary of the market where not less than five hundred thousand traders and customers from various parts of Nigeria and West Africa meet daily.
Talking under the umbrella of Orisumbare Market Association, she said with over five hundred million naira cash exchanging hands daily at the market, it was important for both the government and wealthy Nigerians to ensure that a fire-service centre was established there.
