In a decisive move to overhaul grassroots medical services, the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) hosted its 2026 Development Partners’ Engagement Meeting today at The Zone, Gbagada.
The high-level summit was designed to synchronize international and local interventions with the state’s ambitious health goals, ensuring a unified front against systemic healthcare gaps.
The engagement focused on aligning all partner activities with the Health Sector Strategic Blueprint (HSSB) and the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), marking a transition toward more disciplined, data-driven healthcare management for the 2026 fiscal year.
A Call for Radical Transparency
Delivering the keynote address, the Permanent Secretary of the LSPHCB, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, mni, underscored that the era of fragmented health interventions is over. He advocated for a ” to maximize the impact of every naira and dollar invested in the state’s clinics.
“This gathering reflects our shared responsibility to fortify the foundation of our health system,” Dr. Mustafa stated. “By bringing together leadership and technical expertise under one platform, we are ensuring that every partnership translates into coordinated and impactful action on the ground. Uncoordinated efforts, no matter how well-intentioned, risk creating inefficiencies. This engagement allows us to harmonise our efforts and move forward with a single, unified direction.”
Political Will and Modernization
Dr. Mustafa credited the progress of the state’s health reforms to the THEMES Plus Agenda led by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. He noted that the Governor’s political commitment has provided the necessary stability to attract high-value investments and modernize Primary Health Care (PHC) delivery across Lagos’s burgeoning population.
The Permanent Secretary also highlighted the importance of staying in lockstep with federal initiatives, specifically the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Programme, to ensure that Lagos remains the national benchmark for healthcare efficiency and accountability.
Technical Deep-Dives and Strategic Alignment
The summit transitioned from high-level policy discussions into intensive breakout sessions. During these technical deep-dives, Programme Managers and Development Partners scrutinized implementation strategies for the 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP). These sessions aimed to identify priority areas where partner contributions could be best leveraged to improve maternal and child health, immunization coverage, and disease surveillance.
High-Level Attendance
The meeting saw a significant turnout of the state’s medical leadership, including District Permanent Secretaries Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, Dr. Dapo Ashiyanbi, Dr. Olufemi Omololu, and Dr. Adenike Oluwo. They were joined by LSPHCB Management Staff, District Directors, and representatives from leading international and local development agencies.
By fostering this collaborative ecosystem, the LSPHCB has reaffirmed its commitment to a future where data-driven interventions lead to measurable improvements in the health indices of all Lagosians.
