The Lagos State Health District V, in a strategic move to enhance primary healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes across Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), has commenced the distribution of essential medical equipment to Primary Health Centres (PHCs) within the district
Leading the initiative, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi, accompanied by a delegation of senior officials, presented critical medical equipment to the Ojo Primary Health Centre. The selection of beneficiaries followed a careful review of facility data and prioritisation of identified needs at the Ojo Local Government Area.
Essential Medical Equipment Donated to Enhance Healthcare Delivery
Among the items donated to Ojo PHC were a Resuscitaire, Oxygen Concentrator, Patient Monitor, Fetal Doppler, Paediatric Ambubag, and Adult Ambubag. These are expected to significantly improve emergency response and maternal and child healthcare services at the facility.
Other LGAs and LCDAs within the district also benefited from the distribution, receiving essential medical equipment including X-ray viewing boxes and Autoclave machines to enhance diagnostic accuracy and strengthen sterilization processes across health facilities.
Strengthening Infection Prevention and Control Measures
In furtherance of infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, consumables such as gloves, facemasks, disinfectants, hypochlorite, and other essential materials were distributed to various facilities. These items are aimed at reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infections and ensuring a safer healthcare environment for both patients and health workers.
Additionally, materials to support immunisation outreach activities including parasols, foldable chairs, megaphones, and outreach bags were provided to boost community-based healthcare interventions and improve vaccination coverage across hard-to-reach areas.
Monitoring and Supervisory Visit to Assess Service Delivery
As part of the exercise, Dr. Asiyanbi conducted a monitoring and supervisory visit to Ojo PHC to assess the quality of services rendered at the facility and identify areas requiring further support.
During an interactive session with health workers at the Child Welfare Unit, the Permanent Secretary emphasised the importance of strict adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired infections.
He also encouraged staff to imbibe the principles of the 5S methodology a workplace organisation method aimed at decluttering workspaces and maintaining a clean, organised, and presentable healthcare environment.
Call for Effective Resource Management and Staff Allocation
Dr. Asiyanbi further highlighted the importance of effective resource distribution, appropriate allocation of staff across units, and the need for regular Facility Management Committee meetings. He noted that such meetings are essential for promptly identifying service gaps and implementing practical, on-site solutions before challenges escalate.
His remarks underscored the commitment of Health District V to ensuring that primary healthcare facilities operate at optimal levels and are responsive to the needs of the communities they serve.

In his response, the Medical Officer of Health at Ojo PHC, Dr. Bidemi Sosanya, expressed profound appreciation to the Permanent Secretary for the visit and the provision of equipment. He noted that the gesture had strengthened the team’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services.
Dr. Sosanya added that the close support from the Health District reassures the facility of timely intervention whenever the need arises, boosting staff morale and enhancing service delivery.
