Following the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, the Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have officially launched the KDI/NYSC Civic and Voter Education Community Development Service (CDS). This landmark collaboration has successfully triggered intensive training sessions across NYSC Orientation Camps in all corners of the country.
The initiative marks a deliberate effort to leverage the wide reach of the NYSC network to deepen democratic engagement at the local level. By embedding civic education into the core activities of the service year, both organizations aim to establish a sustainable model for continuous voter enlightenment in Nigeria.
Equipping Youth Leaders Across Nigeria
The intensive training program spanned three consecutive days, reaching corps members across 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). During the orientation exercises, participants were thoroughly equipped with crucial knowledge and practical skills focusing on democracy and governance, civic education, voter education, rights and responsibilities, and the intricacies of the electoral process.
This comprehensive curriculum successfully positioned over 2,600 volunteers and peer educators to act as civic educators and community mobilizers. These trained youth leaders are now prepared to actively engage and enlighten their respective host communities for the entire duration of their service year.
A Shared Commitment to Civic Engagement
The collaboration underscores a powerful, collective resolve to foster an enlightened electorate and fortify democratic structures from the ground up. By transforming corps members into active agents of political literacy, the initiative targets the very foundational levels of Nigerian society.
