The Federal Government is set to arraign several suspects today, in connection with the recent killings in Yelwata, a community in Benue State.
The defendants, who were apprehended following a collaborative investigation by various government agencies, will appear before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik at the Federal High Court in Abuja to answer for their alleged involvement in the attacks.
In a statement issued by Kamarudeen Ogundele, the Special Assistant to the President on Communication and Publicity (Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice), the government described the investigation leading to the arrests as painstaking.
Ogundele noted that the Office of the Attorney General is committed to ensuring that justice is served to act as a deterrent to others.
“The office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to assure Nigerians that justice will be ensured in the matter to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country, acting under any disguise,” Ogundele said.
The spokesperson further emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains dedicated to the protection of lives and property as mandated by the Nigerian Constitution.
The trial will be seen as a significant step in the federal government’s efforts to address insecurity and communal violence in Benue State.
