In a strategic move to eliminate bottlenecks in the voter enrollment process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially flagged off a Mega Voter Registration Exercise in the Lagos Central Senatorial District.

The initiative is part of a broader mandate to enhance the integrity of the electoral roll and ensure no eligible citizen is left behind.

The launch ceremony took place at the Ajele Sports Complex (Campos) on Lagos Island, spearheaded by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Lagos State, Professor Ayobami Salami. Accompanied by the state’s management team, Salami emphasized that the mega center is a direct response to the unique demographic pressures of Nigeria’s commercial nerve center.

Streamlining the Registration Process

The introduction of the Mega Centre is specifically designed to manage the high volume of prospective registrants in densely populated urban corridors. By deploying additional personnel and high-tech equipment, INEC aims to reduce the long queues often seen at regular local government offices. This decentralized approach is expected to provide a faster, more efficient experience for residents, bringing essential democratic services directly to their doorsteps.

Scope of Services and Duration

The exercise, which kicked off on Monday, April 7, 2026, offers a comprehensive suite of services beyond simple enrollment. Eligible citizens can visit the center for:

  • Fresh registration for first-time voters.

  • Inter-state or intra-state transfers of voting locations.

  • Correction of personal data and updates to existing records.

  • Replacement of lost or defaced Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“We are committed to ensuring that the barriers to democratic participation are removed. This mega center is a testament to our resolve to provide a seamless experience for every Lagosian,” stated Professor Ayobami Salami.

“I urge all eligible residents, especially our youth and first-time voters, to take full advantage of this window to secure their right to vote.”

Closing Window for Registration

The Commission has confirmed that the exercise is time-bound, scheduled to conclude on Saturday, April 12, 2026. Operations at the designated centers will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As the deadline approaches, INEC officials are encouraging residents not to wait until the final day, noting that the success of the 2027 general elections depends heavily on the accuracy and inclusivity of the current registration phase.
