As preparations intensify for the August 15, 2026, Osun State Governorship Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commissioned two major facilities at its Osun State headquarters: a state-of-the-art “INEC Decides Studio” and a dedicated BVAS Storage Facility. 
The strategic infrastructure additions, initiated by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Osun State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, are designed to boost election communication and ensure the maximum security of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices before, during, and after the poll.
INEC Leadership Reaffirms Commitment to Free and Fair Election
Following the commissioning ceremony, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, held a high-level briefing with Electoral Officers representing all 30 Local Government Areas in the state. During the session, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Babalola, alongside the Supervising National Commissioner for Osun State, Prof. Kunle Ajayi, reassured the Chairman of the state office’s complete readiness to execute a transparent and seamless poll.
“The Commission in Osun State is fully prepared, committed, and determined to deliver a free, fair, and conclusive election on August 15, and our staff will not disappoint Nigerians,” declared Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola.
Zero Tolerance for Delays and Misinformation
Directly addressing the frontline field officers, Prof. Amupitan commended their ongoing resilience while emphasizing that their conduct directly impacts public confidence in the electoral process. He issued a stern warning regarding logistical efficiency and punctuality at voting centers across the state.
“You are the Commission’s frontline representatives whose actions will shape public confidence in this election. The early opening of polling units is critical—delays will attract strict consequences, while exceptional performance will be rewarded,” Prof. Amupitan warned.
He added that the Commission is actively collaborating with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to safeguard polling personnel and electoral assets. Cautioning against the spread of fake news, the INEC Chairman urged staff to maintain high ethical standards and ensure the Osun governorship election sets a new performance benchmark for future off-cycle polls.
