The Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) has commenced a three-day regional training workshop to strengthen investigative journalism and reporting on economic and financial crimes.
The workshop, which began on September 22 and runs through September 24, 2026, in Accra, Ghana, brings together investigative journalists and media professionals from across the West African sub-region.
Focus on Investigative Reporting
The training is designed to help journalists sharpen their reporting skills, learn modern investigative techniques and strengthen professional networks focused on exposing financial crimes, corruption and illicit financial flows.
According to GIABA, the workshop is also aimed at building a resilient media network capable of supporting stronger public reporting on economic and financial crimes across the region.
The regional body said the initiative reflects GIABA’s and its Member States’ ongoing commitment to fostering an open, transparent and resilient West African socio-economic landscape.
Strengthening Media’s Role
The workshop places emphasis on the role of journalists in investigating and reporting financial crimes, corruption and illicit financial flows, issues that continue to affect economic development and governance across the sub-region.
By bringing together media professionals from different West African countries, the training also seeks to strengthen collaboration and knowledge-sharing among journalists working on complex financial crime investigations.
