Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has appointed Joseph Adeiye as its new Editor, marking a key leadership transition at one of Nigeria’s leading investigative and social justice news platforms.
Adeiye, a 2017 Literature in English graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), is nearly 30 years old and has been part of FIJ’s newsroom since February 2022. Over the years, he has risen steadily through the ranks, serving as Senior Reporter, Acting News and Features Editor, News and Features Editor, and Acting Editor — a position he has held since May 2025.
He now assumes the role of substantive Editor, succeeding Damilola Ayeni, FIJ’s pioneer Editor, who led the organisation between 2022 and 2024.
FIJ’s Founder and Editor-in-Chief, ‘Fisayo Soyombo, described Adeiye as a “tireless worker” and the most improved journalist he has worked with in the organisation’s five-year history.
“The man I see today is several miles an upgrade on the one who walked through the door more than four years ago,” Soyombo said.
He attributed Adeiye’s rise to his commitment to self-development, deep understanding of the newsroom structure, strong work ethic, mastery of the English language, and alignment with FIJ’s identity as a niche investigative platform.
“Add all these to his exceptional work ethic, mastery of the English Language, his nose for news and his alliance with our identity as a niche digital platform, and this appointment was always a no-brainer,” he added.
Adeiye’s tenure as full-fledged Editor is expected to commence on June 1, 2026.
In his remarks, Adeiye described his journey at FIJ as transformative, noting that the platform has given him the opportunity to practise public interest journalism at scale.
“Working at FIJ has given me the opportunity to employ public interest journalism as an instrument of positive change for countless individuals at a scale that is simply inspiring,” he said.
He added that his work at FIJ has allowed him to contribute to exposing corruption, corporate wrongdoing, and systemic injustice.
FIJ founded in June 2020 and fully operational from January 2021, has grown into a prominent investigative newsroom known for exposing corruption, scams, abuse of power, and various forms of injustice in Nigeria.
