In a major move to modernize Nigeria’s internal security architecture, the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has officially partnered with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to provide high-speed internet connectivity to police stations across the country.
The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to transform the operational efficiency of the force through advanced technology.
The initiative, captured under Project BRIDGE, seeks to integrate the Nigeria Police Force into the country’s national fibre backbone. This infrastructure will move the force away from traditional manual processes toward a digitized system capable of real-time data exchange and advanced criminal tracking.
Project BRIDGE: A Tech-Driven Security Overhaul
Speaking on the importance of the partnership, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, emphasized that a technologically empowered police force is essential for modern governance.

He noted that the digital transformation agenda must be inclusive of the institutions tasked with public safety.
“A connected police force is a more effective police force. Through Project BRIDGE, we are linking Nigeria’s police stations to the national fibre backbone, equipping them with data-sharing capabilities, and positioning them to benefit from AI-enabled tools for incident response, case management, and predictive analytics,” Tijani stated.
The signing ceremony included the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, and several board members, signaling a unified front in the federal government’s effort to equip the police with 21st-century tools.
Minister Tijani reiterated that the men and women responsible for keeping Nigerians safe must be the primary beneficiaries of modern innovation. As the rollout of Project BRIDGE begins, the focus will remain on ensuring that every station, regardless of location, can leverage digital connectivity to protect and serve more effectively.
