The African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), in collaboration with the African Union Commission, UNESCO, and the Spix Foundation, successfully concluded its high-level engagement at the eLearning Africa 2026 conference. Held from June 3–5 at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana, the pivotal summit gathered continental stakeholders, policymakers, and innovators to map out the future of education, digital literacy, and human capital development across the continent.
The international gathering was hosted by the Government of Ghana, drawing praise from delegates for its seamless execution and forward-thinking agenda. AUDA-NEPAD extended its formal appreciation to the host nation, acknowledging the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, for fostering a collaborative environment aimed at transforming African education systems.
Championing AI and Digital Inclusion
Taking a frontline role through its Human Capital and Institutional Development Directorate, AUDA-NEPAD spearheaded critical debates centered on inclusive digital education, rapid skills development, and AI-enabled learning. The discussions emphasized the urgent need for a productive, regulated, and impactful use of technology to build a resilient workforce capable of thriving in a modern global economy.
“Our commitment is to translate continental frameworks into practical programmes that deliver measurable impact across Africa,” AUDA-NEPAD stated. “By collaborating with Member States, Regional Economic Communities, academia, and private sector innovators, we are ensuring that technology translates into real, tangible opportunities for learners, teachers, youth, workers, and enterprises alike.”
Unveiling the PIPIA and EdTech Vision
A major highlight of the conference was the spotlight on AUDA-NEPAD’s newly emerging Programme for Inclusive and Productive Use of the Internet in Africa (PIPIA). Alongside this initiative, the agency showcased the AUDA-NEPAD EdTech Vision and Plan, a comprehensive blueprint designed to assist Member States in scaling up meaningful digital learning infrastructures and correcting systemic educational disparities.
These newly unveiled frameworks are strategically aligned with the continent’s overarching development blueprints, including Agenda 2063, the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA), the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa (STISA), and the African Union Digital Education Strategy. Moving forward, AUDA-NEPAD aims to solidify partnerships with development partners and private sector actors to actively deploy these digital tools, ensuring no African learner is left behind in the rapidly evolving digital age.
