The Ekiti State Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has called on officials across Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to prioritize transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

Speaking at a one-day sensitization workshop in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Alfred Ologuntoye, stated that the program was designed to familiarize grassroots officials with the Ekiti State Fiscal Responsibility Law (First Amendment), 2020. He noted that the initiative aligns with the state’s broader goal of consolidating its reputation for fiscal integrity.

Ologuntoye emphasized that the administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji maintains a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and provides the necessary support to enforce fiscal regulations. He highlighted that Ekiti’s adherence to these reforms has secured its eligibility for international and national programs, including the World Bank-supported State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) framework.

“Effective implementation of the Fiscal Responsibility Law is critical to sustainable development and prudent use of public resources at all levels of government,” Ologuntoye said.

The event received legislative backing from the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Lateef Akanle. Represented by the committee’s clerk, Mr. Muyiwa Falaye, Akanle assured the commission of the House of Assembly’s continued support in strengthening public finance management.

Technical sessions led by Barrister I. J. Adelusi further briefed participants on the legal requirements for budgeting, revenue generation, and expenditure control. The workshop was attended by heads of local government administrations, directors of budget, and various stakeholders within the state’s financial sector.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Wole Oloworemo, closed the session by reaffirming the agency’s commitment to ensuring that due process remains the standard for public spending at the local level.
