In a high-level move to ensure justice following the recent ugly incident in Ozoro, the Delta State Government and the State Police Command have formalised a partnership to fast-track the investigation and prosecution of all individuals involved in the unrest.
The collaboration was solidified on Monday, March 23, 2026, during a strategic meeting at the State Police Headquarters in Asaba, where the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, led a delegation to meet with Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola.
Government Pledges Deterrent Justice
During the visit, the Attorney-General commended the police for their immediate intervention, which restored order to the Ozoro community after a wave of public outcry. He emphasized that the state would not be lenient with those who breach public peace.
“The State Government is committed to supporting the Police to ensure diligent prosecution of those found culpable. This will serve as a deterrence to others and ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done,” Ohwovoriole stated.
The Attorney-General’s visit signals a shift toward a more aggressive legal approach to communal crises, ensuring that case files are processed with swift precision to avoid delays in the judicial system.
Police Command Resolute on Public Safety
Responding to the delegation, CP Aina Adesola reassured the public that the Command has already identified key suspects. The CP noted that he had personally visited Ozoro to engage with local stakeholders to prevent any further escalation.
Key highlights from the Police briefing include direct talks with the key stakeholders of Ozoro community leaders are ongoing to maintain the current peace, the specialized investigation team has been ordered to conclude findings immediately for swift prosecution, and new security measures have been deployed to ensure such an incident will not occur again.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reiterated in a statement that the Command remains resolute in its mandate to uphold the law, urging members of the public to remain calm while the legal process takes its course.
