As global actors converge in Egypt for this year’s United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP27), the Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, says the achievement of the 1.5C climate goal has the potential of creating sustainable development and economic prosperity through investing in a green future for people and planet.

The Prime Minister in a welcome address on Monday obtained by MAP NEWS, said this year’s conference which hold in Sharm El-Sheikh avails world leaders, negotiators and all stakeholders the opportunity to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to climate action on all front.
“Today more than ever, people across the globe expect action on the ground towards securing the 1.5C goal, and adapting to the negative impacts of climate change through the implementation of the provisions of the Paris Agreement, updating NDCs and fulfilling the broad array of pledges and commitments made in Glasgow by Governments and other entities,” Dr. Madbouly said.
“This effort will not bear fruit unless global concerted action is taken at all levels and by all actors. COP27 will be the right moment to seize the opportunity and further turn the climate challenge into an opportunity for sustainable development and economic prosperity through investing in a green future for people and planet.
“At COP27, we trust that world leaders, negotiators and all stakeholders will be gathering once again to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to climate action on all fronts.”
At an earlier address by the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who is the president of COP27, he identified implementation as the main focus of COP27 aiming at addressing climate related transition and transformation through a holistic approach that takes into consideration different aspects, including the social and economic development dimensions, enablers for a just transition, ambition in action and support to allow for an on time and at scale substantial progress in all aspects of climate change, with ambition on mitigation action as envisaged by science, a transformative adaptation agenda that responds to the current and future impacts of climate change and appropriate finance and technology transfer to allow for an inclusive and principle based transition with no one left behind.
