The Nigerian Government has expressed that numerous less favored Nigerians are starving.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh expressed at the re-introduction of an Inter-Ministerial Agriculture/Nutrition Working Group (IANWG) in Abuja.
He said a great many people frequently devour sugars and less of protein, in this manner influencing their wellness, particularly under-five age group children.
Ogbeh bemoaned that a few children less than five years old needed access to drain, meat, chicken and other fundamental proteins, which had brought about hindered development and different types of afflictions.
The minister emphasised that Nigerians must eat appropriately and be aware of what was being expended to maintain a strategic distance from food poisoning.
Ogbeh said: “Food is the best medicine, but it can also be the worst poison. We have to deal with the issue of self-poisoning. We talk of water poison in our food.
“The use of polythene water package and some foods are lacking in basic nutrients. So, it is important to know what we eat; otherwise, we simply ingest poison.”
Ogbeh focused on the need to desperately address starvation of more than 37 percent of children in the nation.
He said the board of trustees would plan methodologies to advance better living, address lack of healthy sustenance and increase hygienic food production.
“We need our youngsters between the ages of one and five to be legitimately dealt with at crèches. The best time to build up a child’s brain is the initial five years.
“We would prefer not to have hindered youngsters. Thus, we will strengthen our participation with the Ministry of Health,” Ogbeh included.
