Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been officially honored with a prestigious Commonwealth award, recognizing him as the Best Friendly Administrator to the nursing profession in Nigeria. The award highlights the Governor’s ongoing efforts to transform the state’s healthcare landscape.

The Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation presented the global accolade during its recent conference in Abuja. The federation cited Sanwo-Olu’s visionary leadership and strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure, improved working conditions, and the overall wellbeing of medical personnel under his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda.

A Model for Healthcare Welfare

The international nursing body noted that Lagos State has consistently set the pace for the rest of the country, particularly in prioritizing the advancement and welfare of frontline health workers.

On Thursday, the Chairman of the Lagos Council of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Mrs. Christianah Adeboboye, formally presented the award plaque to the Governor at the Secretariat in Alausa. She emphasized that the recognition was well-deserved given the administration’s tangible support for the profession.

“The Sanwo-Olu administration has demonstrated genuine concern for the wellbeing of health workers through consistent investments in healthcare infrastructure, which is complemented with prompt payment and insurance protection,” Adeboboye stated during the presentation.

Driving the Vision for a Healthier Lagos

The Commonwealth federation expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s continuous efforts to promote quality healthcare services. Representatives at the conference emphasized that Sanwo-Olu’s policies directly acknowledge the critical role nurses and midwives play in achieving sustainable healthcare delivery.

By upgrading local medical facilities and securing protective insurance policies, the administration has successfully boosted morale among health sector personnel, establishing Lagos as a benchmark for healthcare administration in Nigeria.
