The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and CISLAC Global have applauded the recent appointment of Prof. Tijjani Muhammad Bande, as the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Prof. Bande’s appointment was announced by María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, outgoing president of the Assembly during a visit to the State House, Abuja, Nigeria.
CISLAC labeled the appointment of Bande as “well deserved” adding that his appointment is and “appreciation of Prof. Bande’s wealth of experience and demonstration of the confidence Nigeria.”
Auwal Ibrahim Musa, Executive Director of CISLAC, speaking on the appointment of Bande said: “We also consider the appointment as an endorsement of his competence and commitment in contributing to political and socio-economic development and integration at Nigeria, Africa and global levels which were proven in his decades of priceless service in both public and private sectors.
“We recall and commend Prof. Bande’s profound interest and patriotic involvement hitherto in enhanced mutual integration and interaction among Government of Nigeria, international community, electorate, civil society and development partners on issues affecting the national, regional, continental and global social sector investment, equal opportunity, and good governance.
“We are further convinced that he will bring his experience, values and excellent qualities to bear in the new responsibilities.”
Musa expressed confidence in Bande’s track records while noting that his appointment will enhance efficient and qualitative discussions pertaining to international peace and security, including development, disarmament, human rights, international law, and the peaceful arbitration of disputes between nations at the United Nations General Assembly.
Prof. Bande has before his new appointment serves as the Director-General of the Centre African de Formation et de Recherche Administrative pour le Development (CAFRAD), Tangier, Morocco; Vice Chancellor Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto state; Director-General of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru Plateau state, to mention few.
