The Government of Canada has officially marked a significant milestone in its diplomatic and developmental partnership with Nigeria by inaugurating the Project Steering Committee for the Renewed Women’s Voice & Leadership Nigeria (RWVL) initiative.
This move will institutionalize leadership and strengthen accountability in the feminist movement, reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing the rights of women and girls across the federation.
Expanding Impact Through Local Partnerships
Backed by a substantial investment of C$15 million, the RWVL initiative is designed to scale up support for women-led organizations (WLOs), human rights defenders, and feminist networks. The program’s reach is set to expand across eight states and at the national level, providing much-needed resources to those on the front lines of gender advocacy. By focusing on locally driven solutions, the initiative ensures that the drive for inclusive change is rooted in the specific needs and cultural contexts of Nigerian communities.
This renewed phase builds upon previous successes, seeking to create a more resilient ecosystem for gender equality. By empowering grassroots defenders and national networks, the RWVL initiative aims to dismantle systemic barriers and foster an environment where women’s voices are not only heard but are central to the country’s developmental trajectory.
