ActionAid Nigeria recently joined forces with the European Union (EU) and a consortium of international development partners for the Second Joint Steering Committee Meeting aimed at advancing sustainable and innovative social protection programmes across the federation.
The high-level gathering served as a strategic platform for stakeholders to evaluate the trajectory of social welfare initiatives and ensure that the country’s most vulnerable populations are shielded from economic volatility.
Strategic Collaboration for Social Impact
The meeting brought together a heavy-hitting lineup of implementing partners, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Alongside Oxfam and the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, these organizations engaged in a comprehensive review of implementation milestones achieved over the past year. The primary objective remains the creation of a robust framework for social security that transitions from short-term relief to long-term economic resilience.
ActionAid Showcases ESSPIN Progress
A focal point of the session was a detailed presentation by ActionAid Nigeria regarding the ESSPIN project. The presentation highlighted critical data points and success stories from the field, illustrating how innovative social protection models are being integrated into local communities.
Speaking on the importance of the collaborative effort, ActionAid Nigeria stated:
“This meeting provides a vital opportunity to reflect on our collective progress and refine our strategies. By assessing our milestones with the EU and our fellow implementing partners, we ensure that the next steps for social protection in Nigeria are both data-driven and human-centered.”
Mapping the Future of Welfare Implementation
As the meeting concluded, partners reaffirmed their commitment to the EU Support to Sustainable and Innovative Social Protection Programmes, setting a clear roadmap for upcoming interventions designed to reduce poverty and enhance the dignity of Nigerians nationwide.
