The Accord Party has dismissed the support declared by its expelled former 2023 presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen, for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiyi, ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, and signed by its National Chairman, Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the party said Imumolen no longer speaks for Accord and has no electoral influence capable of determining the outcome of the election.
Accord Disowns Imumolen
Accord said Imumolen’s appearance at an APC rally in Osogbo, where he endorsed Oyebamiyi, further confirmed that he is no longer a member of the party.
The party also rejected the description of Imumolen as a “factional chairman,” insisting that Accord has no faction.
According to Mgbudem, Imumolen’s support for the APC candidate does not reflect the position of the party or its members in Osun State.
The party further described him as a political actor without the structure or support required to influence the election.
Party Predicts Victory
Accord expressed confidence that it would record a landslide victory in the Osun governorship election, claiming that the party enjoys strong support across the state.
The party said Osun residents had rejected the APC and would instead back Accord and Governor Ademola Adeleke at the polls.
“Osun State is an Accord stronghold, the people are in one accord with Governor Ademola Adeleke and will overwhelmingly vote for the party on Saturday, August 15,” the statement said.
Accord said its confidence was based on what it described as Adeleke’s achievements and transformational leadership in the state.
Accord Raises Concerns Over Election Conduct
The party also accused the APC of resorting to what it described as violence, harassment and intimidation, alleging that federal institutions, including the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), were being used to put pressure on the Osun government and opposition supporters.
Accord did not provide specific evidence in the statement to substantiate the allegations.
The party urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral and conduct a free, fair and credible election.
It also called on security agencies to act professionally and impartially throughout the electoral process.
Calls for International Monitoring
Accord appealed to the European Union, African Union, ECOWAS, United States and United Kingdom to closely monitor the election and ensure that anyone found to have violated electoral rules is held accountable.
The party said the Osun governorship election should become a benchmark for improving the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
“Let the Osun State governorship election set a new national standard in the conduct of elections in Nigeria,” Mgbudem said.
With the election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, Accord said it was fully prepared for the contest and remained confident of victory.
